The Floor is Lava is a 2D platformer where the player's objective is to get to the end of the level as fast as possible. The core mechanic is the player being able to pick up and throw couch cushions using them to advance in the level. The game is very simple with only move, jump, and throw as controls for the game. The Floor is Lava provides a very simplistic but nostalgic feel when it is played. I worked in a team of four to develop this game for the Microsoft Winter XNA games at RIT, we had 48 hours to complete the project. Our team was the runner up in a group of 16 teams. As team leader I focused on the collision detection, special effects and game physics programming.
